A Northern Vista
Feng Shui finds harmony in the surrounding environment, and this project has certainly mastered that art. The project was driven by a desire to open up the top floor living spaces of the house and create an ‘all access’ alfresco area that would capitalise on the valley views. It was important to connect all existing living and outdoor areas in order to maximise the entertainment capabilities.
The construction process saw the removal of the rear ground floor roof structure and removal of the upstairs rear windows. The existing window openings were enlarged to make way for timber and aluminium composite bi-folding door units, while an internal wall between the kitchen and living room was opened to create a spacious flow between the upstairs rooms.
A new steel framed deck was built along the back of the house with outdoor access from the living rooms made possible through large, bi-folding door units. A winding staircase at the end of the deck connects the upper floor with the lower floor pool and outdoor area. With beautiful aesthetics in mind, the staircase features a robust combination of exposed steel, hardwood and glass.
Slip resistant tiles and glass balustrading give the existing deck a fresh new look, while the final details included paving and soft landscaping of the bottom floor outdoor areas.
