North Shore Residence
In this project, a modest Californian bungalow was transformed into a large, open plan home on Sydney’s North Shore. The design was strongly influenced by the notion of ‘outdoor living’ with consideration given to the existing backyard and pool area.
The construction process began with demolition of the rear sunroom, laundry, garage and deck area. Extension of the roof and external walls doubled the existing house footprint, creating a huge open plan area consisting of a kitchen, living room, dining room and office. Segregation became a thing of the past for this space with the only internal walls belonging to the laundry and bathroom.
High ceilings complement large commercial windows, while a huge corner-stacking sliding door unit opens onto a spacious, covered, hardwood deck. A pair of rolling barn doors between the new living room and existing house was the finishing touch on this transformation.
Stonework completed the outdoor areas along with fresh turf and plants in the front and rear yards.
